ELSA Delegations provide ELSA members with the unique opportunity to experience international decision-making firsthand by attending closed sessions of various international organisations in Geneva, Vienna, New York and elsewhere!
Members of ELSA Ireland have participated in several different Delegations in recent years, including to various UN agencies in Geneva and New York and the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
Recently, ELSA WIT member Colm Kelly-Ryan attended UN ECOSOC’s High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York. Here’s what he had to say:
I attended The High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development with an overarching theme of eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world. I received an insight into how UN conferences function by attending the main conference along with side events that ran throughout the week at the United Nations Headquarters.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, provides an international platform towards eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity, which Ireland has signed up to.
ELSA offers members a unique opportunity to witness political and legal structures in action up-close and to work with ELSA colleagues from other countries.
